Arts and crafts
There are a number of galleries and studios along the coast of Applecross which offer the visitor quality hand made items, stained glass, jewellery, spun and knitted items, wools, framed local photographs, gifts and mementos. Some galleries also provide tea and coffee.
The Coal Shed is a gallery in a renovated, stone building which was used as a coal store in times gone by. The gallery displays Sue Groocock's hand made jewellery which uses semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and silver.
In addition, there is original artwork and prints, local crafts, printed textiles and gifts from further afield.
Croft Wools and Weavers is a hand-weaving workshop situated in Cuaig run by Lesley and Tom Kilbride.
Available in the workshop is a range of hand spun and hand dyed knitting wool and woollen hand made goods.
There are also hand spun shawls, felted cushions and bags, locally made gifts, wooden bowls, willow baskets, jewellery, stained glass and pottery.
Lesley and Tom also offer courses in the traditional crafts of spinning, weaving or dyeing. All equipment is provided, and beginners and improvers are welcome.
Angora Ecosse at Doire-Aonar near Shieldaig provides finest hand knitted Christening and fashion shawls, stoles and luxury knitwear made from angora and Hebridean wool.
There is a range of 2 ply and double knitting wool yarns and garments in a range of colours. You will also find white Aran and their own natural brown Hebridean wools, scoured and oiled.
Sheep fleece for home spinning and sheepskin rugs are also available as are antiques and collectables.
Applecross Photographic Gallery is the base for the workshop and displays of locally based landscape and wildlife photographer, Jack Marris.
A large selection of photographs in beautiful local wood frames, picturesque postcards and much more is available.
Jack also runs photographic workshops in Applecross ranging from short half day sessions to full week courses covering all aspects from technical camera settings and techniques to wildlife tracking.
